Mumbai-Pune Hyperloop Set to Launch by 2029

Mumbai: The highly anticipated Hyperloop transportation system connecting Mumbai and Pune is set to become operational by 2029, offering a fast, safe, and eco-friendly alternative for inter-city travel. According to officials, the innovative mode of transportation promises to revolutionise mass mobility between the two bustling cities. Pune-based Quintrans Hyperloop, the company leading the development of the project, is making significant strides towards bringing this next-generation transportation solution to life.

Quintrans has already achieved commercial-scale development of several critical technologies for the Hyperloop, including a novel, patent-pending concrete tube design and an advanced linear motor capable of moving over 1 tonne of payload. Pranay Luniya, CEO and co-founder of Quintrans Hyperloop, explained that the company’s linear motor controller, which has been custom-built in India, is among the first of its kind. Looking ahead, the next goal is to refine magnetic levitation systems to support similar payload capacities, enhancing the overall efficiency of the system. While the first phase of the project may initially feature cargo transportation along a smaller route, the passenger version is expected to follow shortly after, with a full-scale operation anticipated within the next few years.

According to Luniya, the Hyperloop could cover the 150-kilometre distance between Mumbai and Pune in under 25 minutes. Regarding affordability, Luniya mentioned that the estimated ticket prices of ₹1,000-₹1,500 for the Mumbai-Pune Hyperloop would offer a competitive and efficient option when compared to existing travel alternatives, such as flights costing ₹3,000 or the Vande Bharat train priced at ₹750. The Mumbai-Pune Hyperloop project, once complete, is expected to significantly reduce travel time, enhance inter-city connectivity, and usher in a new era of high-speed transportation in India.
