Bira 91’s Mysuru Brewery Becomes India’s First Net Zero Brewery

Bira 91, a popular beer brand in India, has announced that its brewery in Mysuru has achieved carbon neutrality, making it the country’s first net-zero brewery. The achievement was announced on Earth Day, as part of the company’s ‘Mission to Zero’ initiative, which aims to make Bira 91 the first net-zero beer company in India by 2025.

The company has implemented an aggressive action plan to reduce energy consumption and transition to 100 percent clean, renewable energy at its Mysuru brewery. These efforts have significantly reduced its Scope-1 and Scope-2 emissions, enabling the brewery to achieve this milestone.

The company’s ‘Mission to Zero’ initiative outlines four key areas that it aims to accomplish, including shifting to 100 percent clean energy, reducing energy consumption by 60 percent, decreasing water usage by 50 percent, and eradicating waste destined for landfills from all its breweries by 2025.
