Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor has launched a major section, making travel between Delhi and Meerut faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly. The new 55 km stretch, from New Ashok Nagar in Delhi to Meerut South, is a game-changer, offering passengers a quick 40-minute commute. With the official inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this ambitious project is set to transform the daily lives of countless commuters.

The Namo Bharat RRTS corridor, which aims to ease traffic congestion and improve air quality, is expected to alleviate the heavy vehicular traffic between Delhi and Meerut. It marks a key milestone, with the addition of a 13 km section from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar on January 5, 2025. This brings the total operational stretch of the corridor to 55 km. The trains, which run every 15 minutes, will offer passengers a swift and modern way to travel between cities. The distance between Meerut South and Anand Vihar can now be covered in just 35 minutes, while the entire journey from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South takes under 40 minutes. For many, this new development is a welcome change. Commuters no longer have to endure long, stressful hours stuck in traffic. “This new RRTS corridor will save us a lot of time and frustration,” says Rajeev Kumar, a daily commuter from Meerut. “We can now reach Delhi much faster, which means less time spent travelling and more time for work or family.”

The RRTS system also includes several passenger-friendly features, such as reserved coaches for women and designated spaces for the elderly, disabled, and persons with disabilities. “The accessibility features are a huge bonus,” says Priya, a regular traveller. “It feels good to know that everyone, no matter their age or ability, can travel comfortably.” Another exciting aspect of the corridor is its integration with multiple modes of transport. Anand Vihar station, one of the key stations in Delhi, connects seamlessly with the Delhi Metro (Blue and Pink Lines), as well as the inter-state and city bus terminals. This multi-modal integration ensures that passengers can transfer easily between different transportation systems without hassle. “The convenience of connecting with buses and metro lines at Anand Vihar is a huge advantage,” adds Ramesh, a daily commuter from East Delhi.

For Prime Minister Modi, the Namo Bharat project represents more than just a transport upgrade. In his speech, he highlighted its long-term strategic benefits, including reducing carbon emissions by 2.5 lakh tonnes annually and taking over 1 lakh private vehicles off the roads. These environmental and sustainability goals make the Namo Bharat RRTS an important step towards decongesting Delhi and improving air quality. “This is not just about convenience, it’s about the future of the region,” Modi said, stressing the need for balanced development. As the project nears its full completion, with the remaining sections scheduled to be operational by June 2025, the impact on commuters and the region as a whole is expected to be transformative. “The future of commuting is here,” says Anjali, a student from Noida. “It’s faster, more affordable, and better for the environment. I’m excited about the possibilities this opens up.” The Namo Bharat RRTS corridor is a significant leap forward in the evolution of urban transport, enhancing connectivity, reducing travel time, and promoting sustainability. With seamless integration and modern amenities, it’s a much-needed change that will benefit thousands of commuters for years to come.
