Daily Mumbai-Varanasi Flights By Air India Begin in February 2025

In a strategic move to enhance connectivity and tap into the burgeoning demand spurred by the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, Tata-owned Air India Express is set to commence daily non-stop flights between Mumbai and Varanasi from 15th February 2025. This marks the airline’s maiden venture into the Mumbai-Varanasi route, further broadening its domestic footprint.

Varanasi, often referred to as India’s spiritual heart, sees a significant influx of pilgrims and tourists, especially during major events like the Maha Kumbh. The addition of this route is poised to address the growing need for seamless travel between India’s financial capital, Mumbai, and the revered city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Flight IX 2546 will depart Mumbai at 13:20 IST, arriving in Varanasi at 15:40 IST. The return leg, IX 2547, will depart Varanasi at 16:15 IST, landing in Mumbai at 18:30 IST. These flights will be operated using the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with a seating capacity of 176-178 passengers, depending on the configuration.

Air India Express will be entering a competitive market, as four other carriers, including IndiGo, Akasa Air, SpiceJet, and its parent company, Air India, already serve this route. Currently, the sector witnesses six daily flights. With the addition of Air India Express, the number will rise to seven daily services, providing passengers with greater options and potentially driving competitive fares. The decision aligns with the growing demand for enhanced air connectivity in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, a focus area for the Tata Group. As the Maha Kumbh Mela draws millions of domestic and international visitors, this move could prove lucrative for Air India Express, further cementing its position in India’s dynamic aviation landscape
