GCDA Plans to Set Up 100 Public Toilets in Kochi

Considering the city’s shortage of public toilets, the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) plans to construct 100 public toilets across its jurisdiction. The project will be announced in the GCDA budget next month, and locations for the toilets will be identified soon. GCDA plans to complete the projects within a year, and a detailed project report will be readied post the budget announcement.

Meanwhile, GCDA has already started works on five toilet complexes in the city, and four of them will be functional in two months. Each complex, which will have separate toilets for gents, ladies, transgender and disabled people, will have an area of 50 sq m, and the projects are being carried out using a fund of around INR 2 crore from Cochin Smart Mission (CSML).

It is constructing two complexes at Marine Drive and one each at Kaloor and Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium. The works of these are proceeding. Another complex is planned at Ambedkar Stadium, which is in the tendering stage.
