New Town to Get Second Pet Cemetery with 115 Pits

New Town is set to have its second pet burial ground, with the existing pet cemetery at New Town Action Area III running out of space. According to plans, the second pet burial ground of the township, with 115 pits, will be developed inside the existing cattle and dog pound near tank 10 in Action Area ID.

The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) initiated the process of engaging an agency to develop the ground. The agency will also set up the boundary wall. An estimate of around INR 7.6 lakh has been fixed for the job. The existing pet cemetery opened in 2019, and has around 150 pits. There is also a pet creche and clinic at the place.

NKDA has also been mulling the idea of setting up an electric crematorium on the lines of KMDA-built animal and pet crematorium in the Pramod Nagar area off Belgharia Expressway that was opened a few years ago.
