Jharkhand to Build Glass Bridge at Dassam Falls to Boost Tourism

Jharkhand is stepping up its tourism game with ambitious plans to enhance its natural attractions, aiming to increase footfall at two of the state’s most famous waterfalls. In a move designed to appeal to both domestic and international tourists, the state government’s Department of Tourism is working on the construction of a glass bridge at Dassam Falls and a glass deck at Hundru Falls, located in Ranchi district. The project is expected to be a major draw for tourists, especially during the peak tourist seasons.

The idea was sparked by Tourism Minister Sudivya Kumar’s visit to the Rajgir Mela in Bihar earlier this month, where he was captivated by a glass bridge installed there. Impressed by the potential of such an attraction, he invited the developer behind the Rajgir bridge project to assess whether a similar initiative could be replicated in Jharkhand. Following his invitation, the developers visited Ranchi to explore the feasibility of setting up a glass deck at Hundru Falls and a glass bridge at Dassam Falls. According to Tourism Secretary Manoj Kumar, the developers have confirmed that a glass deck is a viable option at Hundru Falls, while the terrain at Dassam Falls is ideal for the construction of a glass bridge. These proposals aim to provide visitors with an exhilarating experience, allowing them to appreciate the natural beauty of the waterfalls from an entirely new perspective.

Hundru Falls and Dassam Falls are already popular tourist spots in Ranchi, drawing thousands of visitors annually, particularly during the winter, spring, and monsoon seasons. The waterfalls are well-loved picnic destinations for families, nature enthusiasts, and adventure seekers alike. However, the state government believes that adding modern tourist facilities will significantly boost the number of visitors, especially during peak tourist seasons, and enhance the overall tourism experience. In addition to the glass bridge and deck, the tourism department is also investing in upgrading facilities at Hundru Falls. A budget of Rs 3 crore has been sanctioned to repair and improve the existing infrastructure, including the staircases that lead to the base of the falls. New resting areas will be created along the route, and the viewing deck at the base will undergo repairs. There will also be enhanced lighting around the falls, providing a stunning visual experience for visitors, especially in the evenings.

These developments are part of a larger push by the Jharkhand government to promote tourism in the state and make it a more attractive destination for both domestic and international tourists. With its scenic landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant natural attractions, Jharkhand has great potential to become a leading tourist destination in India. The introduction of the glass bridge and deck is expected to elevate the profile of Dassam and Hundru Falls, offering visitors a chance to experience the beauty of nature in a more unique and thrilling way. The government is hopeful that these initiatives will not only increase tourism but also create local employment opportunities, boosting the economy and supporting the growth of local businesses. As Jharkhand continues to invest in tourism infrastructure, the future looks bright for the state’s tourism sector, and these innovative projects are set to play a key role in shaping its development.
