Mumbai Braces for Rising Temperatures, IMD Issues Alert

As Mumbai enters mid-February, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a significant rise in temperatures across the city and neighbouring regions. After a brief spell of winter, the city is now transitioning towards warmer conditions, with maximum temperatures expected to touch 37°C in the coming days.

Over the past few weeks, Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra, including Pune and Nashik, have seen gradual temperature increases, with daytime highs reaching 36°C in some areas. According to IMD, minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 25°C and 33°C, respectively, with humidity levels at 41%. Winds are expected to blow steadily from the Northeast at 16 km/h, adding to the overall weather dynamics. The Mumbai Regional Meteorological Department has warned that temperatures could rise to 37°C in the upcoming days, making daily life hotter and more uncomfortable for residents. Humidity levels remain high, adding to the discomfort factor, a common phenomenon before summer fully sets in. Residents in areas such as Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar can also expect similar weather patterns, with daytime heat intensifying as February progresses.

February is typically the last pleasant month of winter in Mumbai before temperatures begin to rise steadily in March, often bringing an early onset of summer. On February 5, Mumbai recorded a maximum temperature of 32.8°C, but with rising mercury levels, the city is heading towards hotter days ahead. On Monday, February 10, 2025, Mumbai is expected to experience a sunny day, with minimum and maximum temperatures around 23°C and 32°C, respectively. With summer looming, Mumbaikars should brace for increasing heat and humidity. The IMD advises staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, and taking necessary precautions as temperatures continue to rise. As March approaches, the city will likely witness higher temperatures, marking the transition into the summer season.
