New Chowk in Mumbai to be Named After Deendayal Upadhyaya

In a move that pays tribute to one of the prominent leaders in India’s political history, the junction near Tata Garden on Mumbai’s Coastal Road will now bear the name of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.

The late leader, who was associated with the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and the shaping of India’s political landscape, will be immortalised through this new landmark. The junction, where Dharmveer Sambhaji Maharaj Sagari Kinari Marg intersects with Bhulabhai Desai Road, will now officially be called Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Chowk. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday evening and will be hosted by the Lodha Foundation. The event will be graced by Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, who will be the chief guest. The function will also see participation from representatives of the Deendayal Research Institute, a body that seeks to preserve and propagate the ideals of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.

This move is part of a broader effort to honour the contributions of political figures who played a crucial role in the post-independence shaping of India. The naming of public spaces after such figures serves to keep their legacies alive in the minds of the younger generation and future citizens. The junction, located at the intersection of two prominent roads—Mumbai Coastal Road and Warden Road—serves as a key connector in the city’s bustling infrastructure. This naming initiative is expected to add cultural and historical significance to the area, while also promoting the legacy of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and his contributions to India’s political ethos.
