BMC Aims to Finish Dindoshi-Goregaon Flyover Quickly

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has prioritised the swift completion of the Dindoshi-Goregaon flyover, a vital segment of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR), to address the mounting traffic congestion in Mumbai’s eastern and western suburbs. In a bid to expedite the construction process, BMC officials have ordered an increase in the workforce and the implementation of round-the-clock shifts, ensuring that the flyover becomes operational at the earliest.

During a recent site inspection, authorities reviewed the progress of the six-lane, 1,265-metre flyover. The GMLR, a 12.2 km road project, aims to enhance connectivity between the Western and Eastern Express Highways, promising a significant reduction in travel time. Once completed, the road will connect Goregaon on the west with Mulund on the east, cutting travel time between the two points from 75-90 minutes to just 15-25 minutes. This is expected to have a profound impact on the daily commute, alleviating congestion and improving the flow of traffic.

In addition to the flyover, the GMLR project also includes ambitious plans for twin underground tunnels, which will pass beneath Sanjay Gandhi National Park. These tunnels, each stretching 4.7 km, are set to further enhance connectivity between these key suburbs while preserving the region’s green space. Construction of the tunnels is expected to begin shortly, with the arrival of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) in the coming months.

The Dindoshi-Goregaon flyover, once completed, will significantly improve access to the central suburbs, benefiting residents of Malad, Goregaon, and other areas along the route. The urgency shown by the BMC in accelerating its completion underscores the city’s growing need for infrastructure solutions that can support its rapidly expanding population. As Mumbai continues to face traffic-related challenges, the GMLR project is expected to become a cornerstone of the city’s infrastructure transformation, improving connectivity and easing congestion in the long run.
