GHMC Cancels Permit After Fatal Construction Accident
GHMC Cancels Permit After Fatal Construction Accident
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has cancelled the building permit for a construction site in Mansoorabad, LB Nagar zone. The decision comes after three workers tragically lost their lives and another was seriously injured when a mound of loose soil collapsed during the foundation work for a cellar on February 5.The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety measures at construction sites. GHMC officials have stated that both the architect and the structural engineer responsible for the site have had their licenses revoked, and they have been blacklisted for their negligence.
The building owner has also been served a show-cause notice, with a warning of further action, including the potential cancellation of the building permit due to safety lapses.
An inspection revealed that the construction did not follow basic safety protocols. The building, which was being developed as a G+4 storey structure with two cellars, lacked the necessary precautions to prevent ground slippage, and there were also inadequate setbacks. It was confirmed that the site had weak ground conditions that were not properly addressed.
As per GHMC regulations, the builder was required to inform the authorities before excavating the cellar. However, the builder failed to do so, even after the circle officer issued a notice outlining safety measures. This blatant disregard for safety has led to the tragic deaths of the workers.Following the incident, a case was registered by the police against the building owner, after GHMC filed a formal complaint regarding violations of construction safety norms that contributed to the fatalities. This incident highlights the ongoing need for strict enforcement of safety regulations at construction sites, as well as the importance of proactive measures to prevent such accidents.
