GHMC Takes Action Against Pratima Hospital for Unpaid Taxes

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has seized Pratima Hospital in Kachiguda over unpaid tax dues amounting to Rs 37.35 lakh. The dues had accumulated over the past two years, despite several reminders and notices sent to the hospital management.GHMC officials revealed that, in accordance with the civic body’s regulations, they were forced to take this drastic step after the hospital failed to clear its outstanding tax payments. The hospital, which is a well-known healthcare facility in the area, is now facing operational disruptions due to this seizure.

Officials from GHMC emphasised that the action is part of a broader strategy to enforce tax compliance and tackle the rising number of defaulters across the city. The civic body has been intensifying its efforts to recover pending property taxes, which are crucial for maintaining city infrastructure and public services.
The GHMC’s actions highlight the seriousness with which it is addressing non-payment of taxes, particularly in cases where institutions that benefit from the city’s resources, such as hospitals, fail to fulfil their tax obligations.

Despite the inconvenience caused to the hospital, GHMC representatives made it clear that no establishment, regardless of its role in society, would be exempt from paying its due taxes.Pratima Hospital’s management is reportedly in talks with GHMC to resolve the matter, but the full resolution remains to be seen. It is understood that the hospital will need to pay the outstanding amount before any steps toward lifting the seizure can be taken. The GHMC has warned other property tax defaulters in the city that such actions will be increasingly common, as the corporation works to recover funds vital for urban development and civic amenities. The move is expected to set a precedent for similar actions against other defaulters, ensuring a more disciplined approach towards tax compliance in Hyderabad.
