Bihar Marhaura Factory Gears Up for Locomotive Export

The Marhaura factory in Bihar poised to begin exporting locomotives to several international markets. This marks a significant milestone for India’s railway manufacturing sector, with the factory gearing up to export around 100 locomotives soon. In a recent address, the Railway Minister highlighted India’s impressive locomotive production, which has surged to 1,400 units in the current financial year. Notably, this number surpasses the total locomotive manufacturing output of both the United States and Europe combined.

With over 2 lakh wagons added to the fleet, the scale of India’s railway expansion is becoming increasingly evident. The Marhaura factory, situated in Saran district of Bihar, has long been a cornerstone of India’s rail manufacturing efforts. Initially conceived but left dormant, the factory was revitalised in 2014 under the leadership of the current administration. Since its revival, the factory has been at the forefront of locomotive production, and its exports are now set to extend India’s influence in the global railway market. The factory’s locomotives will soon be shipped to countries such as Mozambique, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, showcasing India’s growing prowess in rail manufacturing.

In addition, India’s expertise is also reflected in the export of other rail components, including metro coaches to Australia, and bogies and propulsion systems to countries such as the UK, Saudi Arabia, and France. India’s railway exports signify a broader trend of the country’s manufacturing capabilities gaining international recognition. The Marhaura factory’s future plans to export locomotives mark an important step toward positioning India as a major player in the global rail transport sector.

As the Marhaura factory continues its operations, it’s clear that Bihar is emerging as a significant hub for the country’s rail infrastructure development. The successful export of these locomotives not only strengthens India’s position as a manufacturing powerhouse but also contributes to the growth of its economy through global trade and collaboration.
The export of Marhaura-made locomotives is a testament to India’s growing industrial capacity, solidifying its place as a global leader in the railway manufacturing sector.
