UP Approves Ganga Link Expressway to Boost Noida Airport Connectivity

Uttar Pradesh, the state government has officially approved the construction of the Ganga Link Expressway.

Stretching over 594 kilometres, this ambitious infrastructure project aims to connect Meerut with Prayagraj, while also enhancing connectivity to the Noida International Airport. The approval was granted by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), which provided no objection to the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) to commence construction. This crucial project is expected to bridge key districts, fostering seamless travel and economic growth in the region. The expressway’s alignment underwent modifications after YEIDA raised concerns about its impact on ongoing development projects. The revised route now includes a dedicated industrial corridor along the expressway’s path, particularly in Bulandshahr, which will span 7,111 hectares of land. This corridor is projected to catalyse industrial growth, create employment opportunities, and attract investment in the region.

The newly designed alignment of the expressway will commence from the 44 km mark of the existing Ganga Expressway and extend to 24.8 km of the Yamuna Expressway. The expressway will link the Yamuna Expressway to Sector 21 (Film City) and Industrial Sector 28 before connecting with the 120-metre road. This critical infrastructure is poised to improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and offer direct access to Noida International Airport, benefiting both residential and industrial zones in the region. The 74.3 km-long expressway will be constructed with a width of 120 metres, designed to support high-speed vehicular movement while ensuring safety and efficiency. It will pass through key districts, including Bulandshahr and Prayagraj, reinforcing the UP government’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and fostering sustainable urban development.

Officials highlighted that the industrial corridor alongside the expressway will play a pivotal role in economic development. The project aims to generate substantial employment opportunities through the establishment of industrial units, with plots being allocated to businesses following the completion of land acquisition processes. The expressway is not just a transportation project; it’s a strategic move to integrate urban centres with industrial hubs, promoting sustainable economic growth. It aligns with the broader vision of creating zero net carbon, eco-friendly, and equitable cities, as outlined in the state’s urban development agenda. Moreover, the expressway’s development is expected to support the region’s environmental goals by promoting green infrastructure and reducing carbon emissions through improved traffic management. The project will also incorporate eco-friendly features such as green corridors, energy-efficient lighting, and sustainable drainage systems.

The Uttar Pradesh government has assured that land acquisition activities for the project will commence shortly, with regular monitoring to ensure timely execution. This proactive approach is expected to mitigate potential delays and accelerate the project’s completion. As the Ganga Link Expressway takes shape, it promises to be a game-changer for Uttar Pradesh, redefining the region’s connectivity, economic potential, and environmental sustainability.
