Dubai and India have charted a transformative new chapter in their bilateral relationship, signing eight strategic agreements that cement their shared vision for a sustainable, inclusive, and innovation-driven future.
In a significant diplomatic and economic milestone, the agreements were formalised during an official visit to India by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, who was hosted in Mumbai for a high-level business engagement. The signing, which took place at a forum hosted by Dubai Chambers, signals the deepening of cooperation across pivotal sectors including green logistics, maritime infrastructure, inclusive healthcare, and higher education. Sheikh Hamdan’s presence alongside India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, underscored the growing synergy between the two economies as they seek to build future-ready trade ecosystems that are climate-resilient, tech-integrated, and people-focused.
Dubai Chambers inked Memorandums of Understanding with three of India’s leading industry bodies—Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), and IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry. These MoUs lay the groundwork for empowering Indian businesses to enter or expand in Dubai, with a clear focus on sustainability, digital transformation, and ESG-aligned investment. One of the most forward-looking agreements was signed between DP World and RITES, a public sector enterprise under India’s Ministry of Railways. This partnership aims to modernise logistics and maritime corridors by enhancing the UAE-India Virtual Trade Corridor (VTC)—a digital platform designed to simplify customs and shipping workflows. The platform, launched in 2024, aligns with the climate-neutral aspirations of both countries, reducing dependency on carbon-heavy trade logistics. In the maritime space, Drydocks World, part of DP World, signed a collaborative agreement with Cochin Shipyard Limited to co-develop marine engineering hubs and ship repair clusters in Kochi and Vadinar.
This cooperation has the potential to generate thousands of green jobs and catalyse India’s shipbuilding prowess while supporting sustainable ocean economies. On the academic front, a historic pact between Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism and the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) will bring IIMA’s world-class curriculum to a new Dubai campus. This move reflects a broader commitment to cultivating globally-minded, sustainability-aware business leaders. Healthcare equity also received a powerful boost. Dubai Health, in partnership with several high-impact Indian entrepreneurs and the UAE India Business Council, announced the creation of the UAE-India Friendship Hospital (UIFH). The not-for-profit institution will offer inclusive healthcare access in Dubai, setting a precedent for cross-border philanthropic collaboration. Further bolstering the medical education ecosystem, Dubai Medical University formalised an MoU with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), one of India’s most prestigious health institutions. The partnership is poised to elevate research, innovation, and training with an emphasis on preventative and community-based healthcare.
These agreements collectively underscore the UAE and India’s strategic shift towards building knowledge-based, equitable, and low-carbon urban futures. By focusing on digital infrastructure, skill development, and health access, the bilateral ties are now strongly rooted in human-centric, green economic models that serve both national interests and global sustainability goals. As global economies brace for rapid urbanisation and climate challenges, this renewed partnership between Dubai and India offers a blueprint for how cities and nations can collaborate to forge pathways that are not only profitable but also just and enduring.
