Gateway Terminals partners with JNPA and VPPL to launch skilling programme

Gateway Terminals India (GTI), in collaboration with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and Vadhvan Port Project Ltd. (VPPL), has initiated a comprehensive skill development programme.

This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s “Skill India Programme,” aiming to equip the local community with industry-relevant skills, enhance employability, and promote diversity within the port operations sector. The programme is designed to provide vocational training and technical expertise tailored to the port sector, covering areas such as safety, maintenance, planning, and equipment operations. By integrating theoretical knowledge with practical, on-the-job training, the initiative seeks to produce a job-ready workforce capable of meeting the evolving demands of the maritime industry.

A key focus of the programme is to empower individuals affected by port development projects, offering them opportunities to gain industry-aligned, high-quality training. Additionally, the initiative places a strong emphasis on increasing the participation of women in port operations, actively promoting greater diversity across the industry. Inclusive training methodologies and specific diversity initiatives are integral components of the programme, ensuring that it caters to a broad demographic.

The collaboration between GTI, JNPA, and VPPL underscores a commitment to community development and economic upliftment. By harnessing GTI’s expertise in port operations, JNPA’s administrative support, and VPPL’s developmental goals, the initiative aims to create tangible improvements in local communities through skill-based training. Apprenticeships offering stipends or compensation to participants are also part of the programme, providing financial support during the training period.

This skill development initiative is not only a step towards fulfilling the government’s vision of “ports for prosperity and ports for progress” but also a testament to the collaborative efforts required to drive sustainable growth in the maritime sector. By investing in human capital, the programme aspires to build a resilient and inclusive workforce that can contribute significantly to India’s economic trajectory.
