Indore Gets 4 Acres for Green Revolution

The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has received a significant 4-acre land donation from the Cloth Market Society.

This green initiative, situated on Kesharbagh Road, is set to transform into a flourishing urban forest, leveraging the innovative Miyawaki plantation technique, which has proven successful in creating dense, bio-diverse forests in urban environments. The donation is not just a step towards beautifying the city but a vital effort to combat the escalating challenges posed by urban pollution and environmental degradation. The project was inspected by Mayor-in-charge Rajendra Rathore, along with other key officials, including additional commissioner Abhay Rajangaonkar and garden officer Nagendra Bhadoria. During the site visit, discussions were held on the comprehensive blueprint for the plantation drive, which plans to plant an impressive 1.25 lakh saplings on the 4-acre site. This ambitious goal reflects the city’s drive towards rapid urban afforestation, which is critical in the face of climate change and growing urbanisation. emphasising the urgency and significance of the project, urged officials to ensure the swift and effective execution of the plantation. “The city must prioritise these green spaces for the benefit of its citizens and future generations,” he stated, highlighting the necessity of a long-term maintenance strategy to ensure the saplings thrive. This move will also help Indore in its continued pursuit of becoming one of India’s most sustainable cities, with green initiatives woven into the fabric of urban planning.

Instructions have already been issued to begin tree plantations along the city’s ring roads, green belts, and dividers in the upcoming monsoon season.
