Pune Authorities Demand Exit of Pakistani Nationals After Kashmir Attack

Pune district authorities have directed 111 Pakistani nationals residing in the area to depart India by April 27, 2025.

This directive follows the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, primarily Indian tourists. The attack has led to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, prompting swift retaliatory actions from the Indian government. According to Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, the Pakistani nationals were identified through coordination with the passport office and visa-issuing authorities. The visas held by these individuals were issued for various purposes, including tourism and medical treatment. However, in light of the recent events, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced that all existing valid visas issued to Pakistani citizens would be revoked from April 27. Pakistani nationals currently in India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) were given a 48-hour ultimatum to leave the country.

In response to the Pahalgam attack, the Indian government has implemented several punitive measures against Pakistan. These include the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, the closure of the Integrated Check Post at the Attari border, and the expulsion of Pakistani military advisers from the Indian High Commission in New Delhi. Pakistan has condemned these actions, warning that interference with the Indus River’s water flow could be considered an act of war. The diplomatic crisis has further escalated with both nations exchanging fire along the Line of Control and imposing travel restrictions on each other’s citizens.

The Pahalgam attack, attributed by India to militants with cross-border linkages, has intensified scrutiny of Pakistan’s role in regional security. While Pakistan has denied involvement, the incident has strained bilateral relations and raised concerns about the stability of the Kashmir region. The United Nations has urged both countries to exercise restraint and seek peaceful resolution to the escalating tensions. As the situation develops, the international community remains vigilant, monitoring the potential for further escalation in one of the world’s most volatile regions.
