Chandigarh Launches First App-based Electric Cab Service

In a step towards promoting sustainable transportation and reducing carbon emissions, Chandigarh inaugurated the city’s first app-based electric cab service. It also unveiled the city’s first electric motorcycle, marking another significant milestone in the city’s transition toward eco-friendly transportation options.

The city plans to become Carbon Neutral City by 2030, employing a range of measures, including both biological and non-biological strategies.

The launch of the city’s first app-based electric cab service represents a leap forward in providing Chandigarh residents with eco-friendly and energy-efficient transportation alternatives. As the city continues its journey towards becoming carbon neutral, such initiatives play a crucial role in reducing the environmental footprint and fostering a greener, cleaner urban environment.

The municipal corporations  of several cities in Punjab, including Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala are actively working on a proposal to procure 100 electric buses. This initiative involves meticulous route planning, fare structure determination, and the identification of charging station locations. Collaboration with the Punjab State Power Corporation and Punjab Roadways officials is underway to expedite the acquisition process.
