Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday reviewed the progress of eight proposed Namo Bharat corridors in the National Capital Region (NCR), highlighting their transformative role in improving regional mobility and accelerating economic development.
According to officials, three corridors are currently under implementation in the first phase: Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut (82 km), Delhi-Gurugram-Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror (SNB) (105 km), and Delhi-Panipat-Karnal (136 km). During the meeting held in Chandigarh, the Chief Minister was briefed by National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) Managing Director Shalabh Goel, who presented detailed project reports and key milestones achieved. The 82-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, which has already seen operations launched on a 55-km stretch, received particular attention for its strong public response and operational success. CM Saini called for swift approvals and departmental support for the Delhi-SNB and Delhi-Karnal corridors to ensure timely execution. He also reviewed the proposed alignment, land acquisition requirements, and station locations for these two routes.
The Chief Minister underscored the importance of making the Namo Bharat corridors future-ready and emphasised seamless integration with existing metro networks to maximise utility and accessibility. He said such connectivity would significantly ease travel in NCR, decongest major highways, and promote economic opportunities in urban and semi-urban pockets of Haryana. Further, Saini instructed officials to facilitate the preparation of the detailed project report for the proposed Gurugram-Faridabad-Noida corridor and provide necessary support to NCRTC. The Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) is designed for high-speed intercity travel with a maximum design speed of 180 km/h. Trains are expected to run at intervals of five to ten minutes, with inter-station distances ranging from 5 to 10 km. Once fully operational, the network is expected to reduce travel time significantly—bringing down the Ghaziabad to Gurugram journey from 100 minutes by road to just 37 minutes by train. It will also offer fast and direct access to Delhi Airport from Haryana. The advanced RRTS system will feature automatic fare collection, platform screen doors, and a modernised commuter experience aimed at creating a robust and reliable transit backbone for the NCR.
Saini concluded the review by reaffirming his government’s commitment to infrastructure-led growth and urged all departments to act with urgency in facilitating the Namo Bharat corridors.
