On May 6, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 37.4°C, which is 2°C below the average for this time of year. The minimum temperature stood at 22.5°C, deviating by 3.6°C from the normal range. Additionally, 2 mm of precipitation was recorded between 08:30 IST on May 5 and 08:30 IST on May 6. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that these pleasant conditions are likely to continue. For May 7, the city is expected to experience a partly cloudy sky with a chance of light rain or thundershowers. This pattern is anticipated to persist into May 8, with temperatures hovering around 36°C to 37°C and the possibility of a few spells of rain or thundershowers.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad and several other districts in Telangana, indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds ranging from 30-40 kmph. These conditions are expected to prevail over the next few days, bringing intermittent rain and cooler temperatures to the region. This change in weather is attributed to a western disturbance system currently influencing the region. Such systems are known to cause fluctuations in temperature and precipitation patterns, leading to the observed cooler temperatures and rainfall.
The recent rainfall and drop in temperatures have provided much-needed relief to residents, especially considering the above-normal temperatures and heatwave conditions experienced earlier in the season. The IMD had previously forecasted above-normal temperatures for most parts of India in May, with frequent thunderstorms expected to prevent temperatures from reaching the severe levels observed in previous years. Looking ahead, the weather is expected to remain unpredictable, with the possibility of thunderstorms and dust storms. The maximum temperature on May 8 and May 9 is expected to be around 36°C, while the minimum will hover at 25°C. These conditions are expected to persist through the weekend, with intermittent rain and thunderstorms anticipated.
