Railways Cautions Staff on Military Train Movement Amid Pakistan Threat

The Railway Ministry has issued a high-alert advisory warning its personnel against disclosing any information related to the movement of military special trains, citing potential intelligence-gathering attempts by Pakistan-based operatives.

The advisory, released on May 6, came just a day before India’s armed forces launched missile strikes on terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the recent Pahalgam attack. It urges all Principal Chief Operation Managers across railway zones to reinforce vigilance among staff. “Pakistan intelligence operatives may call railway officials and seek confidential information regarding military special train movements,” the Railway Board noted in its internal message. Any such disclosure, the ministry stressed, would be treated as a serious breach of national security.

The statement also clarified that only Mil Rail, the Military Wing of Indian Railways, is authorised to handle or receive such sensitive data. Any interaction outside this official channel would be a violation of protocol. The advisory urged officers to sensitise all staff to the critical nature of military train movement data and ensure strict compliance with security protocols. “In case any individual seeks information about military movement, no information should be divulged to unauthorised persons,” the ministry stated firmly.

This caution comes at a time of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, underlining the importance of securing logistical operations tied to national defence.
