The transformation of Panvel railway station has moved into a new phase, with the Harbour line ticket counter now relocated to a freshly built facility at the station’s main entrance.
As part of an extensive redevelopment programme spearheaded by Central Railway, this upgrade signifies the rising importance of Panvel as a future transit and logistics hub in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The two-storey building that previously housed ticketing operations is now slated for demolition, a move that makes way for vital infrastructure upgrades including the extension of the Harbour line to Karjat and the creation of a dedicated freight corridor. In its place, a new ground-plus-two structure has been developed to streamline passenger services. The Harbour line ticket counter is already operational on the ground floor, while the upper floors are expected to house a long-distance passenger ticketing facility and a permanent Railway Police office, replacing the current temporary cabin.
Railway authorities confirmed that this strategic relocation is designed to improve passenger movement and prepare the station for increased footfall in the coming years. The revamped layout not only optimises passenger flow but also introduces comfort-driven features. Escalators are being installed to connect suburban and long-distance platforms, enhancing accessibility for senior citizens, women with children, and persons with disabilities. These will become operational once the construction of the connecting overbridge is completed. The redevelopment of Panvel station is more than just a cosmetic upgrade it reflects a broader shift towards future-ready, commuter-centric urban infrastructure. With integrated facilities such as mobile charging stations and improved waiting areas, the station is gradually aligning with the goal of creating equitable and inclusive public transport ecosystems.
