Noida Set to Unveil Key Infrastructure Projects

Noida Authority is poised to inaugurate two pivotal projects: the Bhangel Elevated Road and its new administrative headquarters in Sector 96.

These developments, marred by delays and cost escalations, are now nearing completion, promising to reshape the city’s transit dynamics and governance framework. The Bhangel Elevated Road, a 5.5-kilometre six-lane corridor constructed above the Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera (DSC) road, is designed to alleviate traffic congestion between Noida and Greater Noida. Initially approved in 2013, the project commenced in June 2020 with an estimated budget of ₹468 crore. However, structural modifications and unforeseen challenges have escalated the cost to ₹608 crore. Once operational, the corridor will connect Agahpur to the Noida Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) in Sector 82, bypassing congested areas like Chhalera, Barola, and Bhangel markets, thereby significantly reducing travel time for daily commuters .

The project has faced multiple deadlines, with the latest completion target set for January 31, 2025. Structural modifications, including the narrowing of a 90-metre stretch due to two obstructing buildings, contributed to delays . The installation of nine 60-metre steel girders near the Barola Crossing is scheduled to be completed this week, after which deck slabs will be laid over the following month. Traffic diversions have been implemented at Barola Crossing to facilitate the completion of the elevated road work . Concurrently, the Noida Authority’s new administrative headquarters in Sector 96 is in the final stages of completion. Conceived in 2009 and spread over six acres, the twin-tower building began construction in 2015 with a budget of ₹478 crore. Due to poor construction quality and a delay of more than 450 days, the original contractor was blacklisted in 2022, and a new contractor was appointed. A structural audit by IIT-Delhi in 2023 flagged design flaws, including pillar placement, prompting corrective actions. The revised budget now stands at ₹304 crore .

The new headquarters aims to centralize all administrative departments, currently dispersed across various locations, enhancing operational efficiency and public accessibility. The building is designed to accommodate all departments under one roof, streamlining administrative processes and improving service delivery to the public The inauguration of these two projects is anticipated within the next two months, as both are being given final touches. The Noida Authority has directed staff to expedite the work to meet this deadline .

These infrastructural advancements align with the broader vision of creating sustainable, eco-friendly, and equitable urban spaces. By enhancing connectivity and streamlining administrative functions, Noida is taking significant steps towards becoming a more efficient and accessible city.
