Bridgestone India’s manufacturing facility located in Chakan, Pune, has
received verification as a carbon-neutral plant. This achievement marks a
significant milestone in Bridgestone’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and
carbon reduction.
The Pune facility, which produces over 4 million tires annually, has taken
several measures over the years to significantly reduce its total carbon footprint.
Notable initiatives include the installation of 5 mw power-generating solar
capacity and a carbon-neutral biomass-based boiler plant. This boiler plant
utilises carbon-neutral biomass briquettes created from agricultural waste.
In addition, the plant has offset 2,974 tons of Co2 emissions by Bridgestone
India's purchase of Verified Carbon Standard credits. These credits were
obtained through a bundled solar photovoltaic project developed by Acme in
India. The project involves generating energy from solar panels and exporting it
to regional power grids across different states in India.
The plant’s future plans include an increased reliance on green energy and
ongoing efforts to reduce carbon emissions in all operational aspects, including
tracking scope 3 emissions.
Bridgestone’s achievement of carbon neutrality at its Pune facility demonstrates
the company’s commitment to sustainable practices and environmental
