Delhi and Mumbai Airports Maintain Operations Amid Tensions

As of May 11, 2025, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport continue to operate normally, despite heightened security measures implemented in response to recent regional tensions.

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has mandated enhanced protocols across Indian airports, including Secondary Ladder Point Checks for all passengers and a ban on visitor entry to terminal buildings. These measures aim to bolster safety amid escalating concerns following recent events along the India-Pakistan border.Passengers are advised to arrive at least three hours prior to domestic departures to accommodate potential delays at security checkpoints. Airlines such as Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air have issued similar advisories, emphasizing the importance of early arrival and adherence to security guidelines.

In addition to the heightened security, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has temporarily closed 25 segments of air traffic service routes within the Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Regions until May 15, 2025. This action affects 32 airports across northern and western India, including major hubs like Srinagar and Amritsar, leading to the suspension of civilian flight operations in these areas.

Passengers are urged to stay informed through official airline and airport channels, carry valid government-issued photo identification, and ensure compliance with baggage regulations. Liquids in carry-on bags are limited to 100ml containers placed in clear zip-lock pouches, and electronic devices such as laptops and tablets must be presented separately during screening.Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with the aim of maintaining operational normalcy while ensuring passenger safety. Travelers are encouraged to remain vigilant, cooperate with security personnel, and report any suspicious activity to the nearest CISF officer or airport authority.
