Pune RTO Fines 34K Vehicles Collects Rs 6.37 Cr in Four Months

The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has taken stringent action against 34,126 vehicle owners between January and April 2025 for violating traffic rules on major highways connecting the city.

The drive covered major routes such as Pune-Mumbai, Pune-Satara, Pune-Solapur, and Pune-Nagar. In this four-month period, the department collected ₹6.37 crore in fines for violations ranging from lack of permits and pollution certificates to improper vehicle stoppages and advertising breaches. According to RTO data, the violations included 2,323 vehicles operating without valid fitness certificates, 1,016 private vehicles found without necessary permits, and 4,975 vehicles lacking Pollution Control Certificates.

Additionally, 301 vehicles were penalised for halting at prohibited zones, while 38 were booked for road safety violations. Minor offences included absence of number plates (18), unauthorised advertising (19), and rattling vehicle bodies (18). “All these traffic violations contribute to road accidents and congestion,” said Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale. “We will intensify checks and penalise violators under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. It is crucial for commuters to follow traffic norms for their own safety.”

The RTO has pledged to increase monitoring efforts on highways in the coming days to prevent accidents and ensure safer travel.
