The Uttar Pradesh government is fast-tracking a network of road and expressway projects to enhance connectivity to the Noida International Airport, positioning it as a vital northern aviation hub.
With passenger footfall projected to reach 5 million annually, seamless road access is crucial to meeting future demands in a sustainable and inclusive manner. Among the key developments is the six-lane Bhangel Elevated Road, a 5.5-kilometre stretch connecting Agahpur to the NSEZ via DSC Road. Despite delays due to design modifications and funding issues, authorities now project completion by July 2025. Initially budgeted at ₹468 crore, the revised project cost has escalated to ₹608 crore. Once operational, the elevated corridor will decongest densely populated village zones and streamline vehicular flow between Noida and Greater Noida, a critical feeder route to the upcoming airport.
Another strategic corridor is the DND–Faridabad–Ballabhgarh Bypass Link Road, expected to serve as a major conduit between the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and Jewar Airport. The state government has greenlit an additional ₹48.6 crore for this link, complementing the ₹260 crore already disbursed as land compensation. Land acquisition has been completed across nearly 67 hectares, laying the groundwork for smoother regional access. In a parallel effort to boost long-distance connectivity, the National Highways Authority of India has received a go-ahead to build an 8.5-kilometre elevated segment along the Greenfield Expressway linking Faridabad and Jewar. The full 22-kilometre expressway falls under the Bharatmala Pariyojana initiative and aims to strengthen economic ties and regional trade corridors between Uttar Pradesh and Haryana while offering efficient airport access.
To further bolster multi-directional access, the Uttar Pradesh government has earmarked ₹1,000 crore for a 76-kilometre expressway linking Jewar Airport directly to the Ganga Expressway. Originating from Bulandshahr, the new link will integrate with the Yamuna Expressway and is expected to ease travel for residents of Meerut, Bulandshahr, and users of the Purvanchal and Bundelkhand corridors. Urban planners and mobility experts say that these infrastructure investments must prioritise long-term sustainability. With rising concerns over carbon emissions, transport infrastructure tied to major airports must factor in low-emission mobility, multimodal transport integration, and ecological safeguards.
While rapid urban expansion and mega infrastructure projects often run the risk of excluding vulnerable communities, the current push for road and expressway linkages presents an opportunity to craft a mobility ecosystem that is accessible, inclusive, and environmentally responsible. As the Noida International Airport project progresses, ensuring that these connectivity upgrades align with principles of equitable and green urban development will be vital to delivering long-term value to both the region and the nation.
