Gadkari Showcases India Transport Plans at BRICS

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, represented India at the BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meeting held in Brasilia, where he outlined India’s commitment to developing a sustainable and resilient transport infrastructure.

The summit provided a platform for India to present its key national transport initiatives to global partners. Gadkari highlighted transformative programmes such as PM GatiShakti, the National Logistics Policy, Bharatmala, and Sagarmala—designed to create a unified, multimodal transport network across the country. These flagship policies aim to boost economic growth through improved connectivity, reduced logistics costs, and enhanced infrastructure planning. Sharing insights on social media, the minister wrote, “Represented India at the BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meet in Brasilia — driving the vision for a sustainable, resilient, and future-ready transport ecosystem.”

The BRICS group—comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—accounts for over 41% of the global population and a significant share of world GDP and trade. The annual summit facilitates cooperation on critical global issues, including infrastructure development and economic resilience. India’s emphasis at this year’s meeting focused on developing transport systems that are environmentally sustainable and globally integrated. Gadkari noted that the initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership are aligned with international development goals, aiming to position India as a global leader in modern infrastructure.

The summit reaffirmed India’s intent to partner with emerging economies in building transport networks that support inclusive growth and regional integration.
