Mandeep Kaur Reviews Urban Development Projects Across Srinagar

Commissioner Secretary of Housing & Urban Development Department (H&UDD), Mandeep Kaur, conducted an extensive visit across Srinagar city on Wednesday to assess the progress of major urban development initiatives.

The inspection focused on infrastructure, environmental restoration, and beautification efforts under the city’s ongoing smart city and sustainability programmes. Accompanied by key officials, including Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Dr Owais Ahmed and LCMA Vice Chairman Shahid Saleem, the Commissioner Secretary visited multiple sites—Eidgah, Brar Numbal, Rakh Arth housing colony in Bemina, Parimpora, and adjacent areas—to evaluate ground-level implementation. Emphasising timely completion, Kaur instructed departments to enhance coordination and efficiency. She highlighted the importance of collective action to improve Srinagar’s air quality and urged faster project execution involving local communities for broader, lasting impact.

Later in the day, Kaur chaired a comprehensive review meeting with officials from SMC, LCMA, and allied departments to address delays, assess timelines, and develop mitigation strategies to resolve execution hurdles. Underlining the significance of sustainable urban planning, she said, “It is vital to adopt a community-centric approach and integrate smart city solutions to build a cleaner, greener and resilient Srinagar.”

The visit comes amid intensified efforts to transform Srinagar into a model smart city under the national Smart Cities Mission. With increased focus on environmental rejuvenation, mobility, housing, and public infrastructure, the projects aim to reshape urban living standards in Jammu & Kashmir’s summer capital.
