The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has initiated plans to extend the Namma Metro network from Bengaluru to Tumkur.
This proposed 56.6 km extension aims to alleviate traffic congestion and provide a sustainable transportation alternative for daily commuters. The extension will commence from the Madavara (BIEC) station on the Green Line and will terminate at Shira in Tumkur. The route is planned to include 25 elevated stations, passing through key areas such as Makali, Dasanapura, Nelamangala, Sompura Industrial Area, Dabaspet, Tumkur Bus Stand, and Shira Gate. These strategically located stations are expected to serve both residential and industrial zones, facilitating seamless travel between home, work, and city centres.
A detailed feasibility study for the proposed extension has been completed by a private firm and submitted to the state government for approval. The project is now awaiting the green signal from the state authorities. Once approved, the plan will be forwarded to the central government for final approval. Subsequently, the process of land acquisition and construction will commence. The extension is expected to significantly improve the daily travel experience for residents and visitors. By providing a faster and more reliable mode of transportation, the metro line will reduce dependence on road transport, thereby alleviating traffic congestion on Tumkur Road. Additionally, enhanced connectivity is likely to stimulate local businesses and contribute to the economic development of Tumkur.
