UP launches India first Vistadome jungle safari train

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched India’s first-ever Vistadome jungle safari train, connecting the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary to the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve.

This pioneering initiative is designed to elevate nature-based tourism in the state while providing visitors a unique wildlife experience. Equipped with large glass windows and transparent roofs, the specially designed Vistadome coaches offer panoramic views of the forest landscape, enabling tourists to immerse themselves in the rich biodiversity of the region. The train covers a 107-kilometre stretch through forest areas, wetlands, grasslands, and farmlands, promising a thrilling 4-hour 25-minute journey. Currently operating on weekends, plans are underway to expand the service to daily operations, increasing accessibility for tourists. Tickets are priced at Rs 275 per passenger for the route.

Tourism Director Prakhar Mishra emphasised that the state government under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath aims to promote the forest areas as ‘One Destination Three Forests,’ integrating Dudhwa National Park, Katarniaghat, and Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary for an all-encompassing nature trail. The Bichia to Mailani Tourist Passenger Train (number 52259) departs from Bichia station in Bahraich at 11:45 am and reaches Mailani in Lakhimpur Kheri by 4:10 pm, stopping at nine stations along the way. The return service (train number 52260) leaves Mailani at 6:05 am and arrives at Bichia by 10:30 am. To further promote this unique experience, curated tours are being organised for government school children under the Youth Tourism Club. Additionally, campaigns involving social media influencers and travel bloggers are planned to showcase the Vistadome safari digitally.

The Uttar Pradesh Eco Tourism Development Board is also developing travel packages from Lucknow to Katarniaghat, with possible subsidies to make the journey more affordable. This trailblazing service not only enhances the state’s eco-tourism profile but also opens new avenues for local employment and economic growth, especially by attracting visitors even during the monsoon season.
