Pune Ring Road Construction Begins Targeting 2027 Completion

Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has officially commenced construction on the ambitious Pune Ring Road project.

This extensive infrastructure initiative, spanning 172 kilometres with a width of 110 metres, is designed to alleviate traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, aiming for completion by mid-2027 The project, segmented into eastern and western sections, has been awarded to nine contracting firms. The eastern stretch is divided into seven phases, while the western comprises five, facilitating streamlined execution. Construction activities have already commenced in key areas including Wadebolhai, Khadakwasla, Sinhagad, Mulshi, Urse, Chakan, Hinjawadi, and Soratwadi .

Land acquisition, a critical component of the project, is nearing completion. Approximately 99% of the land required for the western section and 98% for the eastern has been secured, with the remaining parcels undergoing acquisition processes . This progress ensures minimal delays in the construction timeline. The project’s estimated cost has escalated to ₹42,711 crore, attributed to increased construction and land acquisition expenses. To recoup this investment, MSRDC has approved a 40-year toll collection plan, ensuring financial sustainability .

Beyond traffic decongestion, the Pune Ring Road is poised to stimulate economic growth. The development of logistics hubs along the corridor is anticipated to boost manufacturing activities and generate employment opportunities . Additionally, the project aligns with environmental objectives by potentially reducing vehicular emissions through improved traffic flow and reduced congestion. The MSRDC’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive development is evident in the project’s design, which incorporates eco-friendly practices and aims to create equitable urban spaces. By facilitating efficient transportation and supporting economic activities, the Pune Ring Road project represents a significant step towards building a resilient and sustainable urban infrastructure.
