Delhi Flights to New York Now Take 16.5 Hours

Air India has resumed its nonstop flights between Delhi and New York, with journey times now extending up to 16.5 hours due to rerouting necessitated by the closure of Pakistani airspace to Indian carriers.

This development follows geopolitical tensions that have disrupted traditional flight paths, compelling the airline to adopt longer routes over Central Asia, Russia, and the Arctic regions. The resumed services are operated using the Airbus A350-900, a modern wide-body aircraft known for its fuel efficiency and passenger comfort. Despite the extended flight durations, Air India aims to maintain seamless connectivity between India and the United States, catering to the growing demand for direct international travel.

The rerouting has led to increased operational costs and logistical challenges, including higher fuel consumption and the need for meticulous crew scheduling. Nevertheless, Air India’s commitment to providing uninterrupted service underscores its strategic focus on expanding its global footprint and enhancing passenger convenience. While the Delhi–New York route has regained nonstop status, other North American destinations such as Chicago, Washington D.C., and Toronto continue to experience disruptions, with flights making technical stops in European cities like Vienna for refueling. The airline is actively exploring alternative routing options, including the utilization of Mongolian airspace, to restore full nonstop services across its North American network.
