The Kochi Municipal Corporation plans to rope in a new firm for collecting plastic
waste from households in the city. As of now, plastic waste collected from
households is being given to Clean Kerala Company. The fee for collecting a
kilogram of plastic waste is around INR 8.

The quality of plastic collected from households has increased in the past several
months. Earlier, only up to 10 percent of plastic waste collected could be reused.
Now, it has gone up to 20 percent. The quantity of clean plastic is going up
steadily after stringent measures.
