SwaRail App Integrates Train Services on One Platform

Indian Railways has launched a new integrated mobile application called SwaRail, designed to streamline and unify several passenger services onto a single digital platform.

Currently available only for Android users in its beta version, the app is developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the technology arm of Indian Railways. The SwaRail app aims to simplify the railway travel experience by combining features that previously required multiple apps. With SwaRail, users can now book tickets, check real-time train status, track train locations, register complaints, and order meals—all from one platform. The app also supports shipment booking, expanding its functionality beyond passenger services. Until now, passengers relied on the IRCTC app for ticket bookings, a separate app for unreserved tickets, and additional tools to check train statuses or file grievances. SwaRail eliminates the need to switch between these platforms, offering an all-in-one solution for travellers.

Despite its comprehensive functionality, Indian Railways has clarified that the IRCTC app will continue to operate, focusing specifically on train ticket bookings. The launch of SwaRail is not intended to replace IRCTC but to provide a more holistic interface for rail users by covering additional services. The app marks another step in Indian Railways’ ongoing digital transformation as it continues to expand its services and infrastructure across even the most remote parts of the country. Authorities believe SwaRail will significantly improve convenience for millions of daily rail users by bringing together core services in one seamless application.

The app is expected to roll out to iOS devices once the beta testing phase is complete on Android.
