Massive traffic jam on Bhiwandi Wada road after heavy rain damages surface

A severe traffic jam gripped the Bhiwandi-Wada road in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Thursday after overnight rainfall damaged large portions of the road surface.

Commuters were stranded for hours, with the congestion stretching across a 7–8 kilometre stretch due to potholes and ongoing road construction. The damage was caused by a heavy downpour that struck late Wednesday, creating deep craters in the asphalt and severely slowing vehicular movement. The traffic build-up left many residents and travellers immobilised for over four hours during peak morning hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier predicted heavy rainfall for the region, which materialised between 8:30 AM on Thursday and 5:30 AM on Friday. The IMD also reported significant rainfall activity across Konkan, Goa, Gangetic West Bengal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Northeast India.

Looking ahead, IMD forecasts continued heavy to very heavy rainfall along India’s west coast, including parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, and Goa, in the coming days. Commuters are advised to avoid vulnerable stretches and monitor local traffic advisories. Meanwhile, extreme weather was also reported in Delhi, where a dust storm followed by thunderstorms, hail, and rain disrupted daily life on Wednesday evening. Power outages were reported in several localities, including Bawana, Jahangirpuri, Civil Lines, and Model Town. The sudden storm also forced the diversion and delay of multiple flights at the Delhi airport.

According to the IMD, the storm caused a sharp drop in Delhi’s temperature—falling from 37°C to 23°C within an hour at Palam. The Delhi Fire Service received over 25 emergency calls related to fallen trees and weather-induced hazards.
