Maharashtra Announces Rs 1000 Crore Development for Chakan MIDC

To bolster the industrial landscape of Pune’s Chakan MIDC, Maharashtra’s Industry Minister has announced a comprehensive development plan worth Rs 1000 crore.

This initiative aims to address longstanding infrastructural challenges and enhance the region’s appeal as a manufacturing hub. One of the primary concerns raised by industrialists in Chakan has been the erratic power supply, particularly during the monsoon season. To mitigate this, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has been directed to undertake projects worth Rs 1000 crore. Of this, Rs 450 crore has already been sanctioned, with tenders for an additional Rs 650 crore underway. These upgrades are expected to stabilize the power supply and support the region’s growing industrial demands.

Traffic congestion has been a persistent issue in Chakan, affecting the movement of goods and workers. To alleviate this, the government has approved Rs 4000 crore for the development of the Chakan-Shikrapur Road. Additionally, major roads connecting Nashik Phata to Khed and Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur have received approval, with tenders already floated. Work on these projects is slated to commence by early next year. Acknowledging the need for better facilities for industrial workers, the government has issued possession letters for eight acres of land within the MIDC area. This land will be utilized to establish a dedicated hospital catering to the healthcare needs of workers. Furthermore, in response to safety concerns, particularly following a recent incident, the installation of 350 to 400 CCTV cameras across the area has been approved to enhance women’s safety.

Industrialists have long expressed dissatisfaction with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (PMRDA) handling of basic civic amenities in the Chakan MIDC area. In response, the government has directed the PMRDA to bolster its workforce to ensure the timely provision of essential services, thereby improving the overall quality of life for residents and workers alike. The Rs 1000 crore development plan for Chakan MIDC marks a pivotal step in transforming the region into a world-class industrial hub. By addressing critical infrastructure issues, enhancing worker welfare, and improving civic amenities, Maharashtra is setting the stage for sustainable industrial growth and a better quality of life for all stakeholders involved.
