Delhi Heavy Rain Disrupts Life Flights Affected
The adverse weather conditions severely impacted flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport, resulting in the diversion of 49 flights and numerous delays. Passengers were advised to check flight updates and stay in touch with their respective airlines. In addition to air travel disruptions, the heavy downpour led to widespread waterlogging in several parts of Delhi, including Minto Road, Delhi Airport area, and Moti Bagh. Fallen trees blocked roads, causing significant traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters.
Power disruptions were also reported in various areas across Delhi-NCR after the intense dust storm and heavy rain. The IMD had earlier issued a red alert for Delhi and adjoining regions, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and wind speeds ranging between 40–60 km/h. This weather activity followed the early arrival of the southwest monsoon over Kerala, which began on May 23, about a week ahead of the typical June 1 onset. This marks the earliest monsoon onset since 2009. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working to restore normalcy. Residents are advised to remain cautious and stay updated on weather advisories.
