Kad Nagar Faces Disruption After Monsoon Downpour

A sudden evening downpour in Pune’s Undri area on Monday caused widespread disruption, particularly in Kad Nagar, where a wall near a nala collapsed, spilling water onto the road and paralysing local traffic.

The incident occurred between Kad Nagar and the Bishop’s School, where the structure gave way under the pressure of accumulated rainwater. The collapse intensified flooding on nearby roads, resulting in water entering several commercial establishments. Local shopkeepers were forced to shut down temporarily, citing damage to goods and property. While no injuries have been reported so far, the collapse has highlighted glaring issues in Undri’s drainage and monsoon preparedness. Locals expressed frustration over repeated waterlogging, stating that the civic authorities had failed to upgrade the stormwater systems despite rapid urban development in the area.

“The drainage system here has always been inadequate. This wall collapse was waiting to happen,” said a resident living near the affected stretch. The incident also caused significant traffic disruptions during peak evening hours, with vehicles rerouted as water levels rose. The Pune Municipal Corporation has yet to confirm the extent of the damage or provide an official statement. However, civic teams are expected to inspect the site shortly and initiate repairs. Residents are demanding immediate action and long-term infrastructure upgrades to prevent similar occurrences. As the monsoon intensifies, authorities have urged citizens to avoid unstable structures and remain cautious around waterlogged zones.

With construction activity ongoing in several parts of Undri, safety concerns remain high.
