They align development with equity by ensuring the creation of decent job opportunities for all. These jobs aim to reduce energy and raw material consumption, limit greenhouse gas emissions, minimise waste and pollution, and protect ecosystems. The concept has gained traction in the developed world, particularly in the energy sector, with forecasts indicating that green transitions will generate 24 million jobs by 2030.
Green jobs in emerging economies do not mirror their counterparts in developed nations. They may begin with roles such as green farmers and green fishermen, focusing on ecosystem services. Infrastructure is indispensable for emerging economies to create jobs in sectors that demand high-value skills, particularly in renewable energy. Investments in areas like transportation and smart electricity grids are prudent, considering the growing returns on green investments.
