The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that the Bengaluru to Mangaluru side of the 2.1 km Kalladka flyover on National Highway 75 (NH 75) will be opened to traffic from June 2.
This move aims to alleviate traffic congestion and provide much-needed relief to travellers in the region. The Kalladka flyover, a crucial component of the ongoing four-laning project on NH 75, has been under construction for several years. The project, which commenced in 2017, faced multiple challenges, including land acquisition issues and delays in construction. However, with the completion of the flyover’s girder launching and the installation of necessary drainage systems, the NHAI is now ready to open the flyover to traffic. Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Captain Brijesh Chowta, who has been actively involved in overseeing the project’s progress, expressed satisfaction with the developments. “The opening of the Kalladka flyover will significantly reduce travel time between Bengaluru and Mangaluru and enhance the overall safety and efficiency of the route,” he stated.
In addition to the flyover, the NHAI has also addressed other critical infrastructure concerns along NH 75. Two vehicular underpasses at Mani and Uppinangady, which have been prone to waterlogging during the monsoon season, will be opened for traffic from Thursday. These underpasses are expected to facilitate smoother traffic flow and reduce disruptions caused by heavy rainfall. Furthermore, the NHAI is taking proactive measures to address waterlogging issues at Thumbe near B.C. Road. A pipe culvert is being constructed to improve drainage and prevent water accumulation on the highway during the monsoon, ensuring safer travel conditions for commuters.
As of now, approximately 95% of the four-lane work from Addahole to Periyashanthi and 86% of the work between Periyashanthi and B.C. Road have been completed. The NHAI aims to complete the remaining work by the end of this year, with the entire project expected to be fully operational by 2026. The opening of the Kalladka flyover and the completion of associated infrastructure improvements are expected to significantly enhance connectivity between Bengaluru and Mangaluru, boost economic activities in the region, and provide a safer and more efficient travel experience for commuters.
