Hyderabad To Link RTA Data With Smart Traffic Hub

The Telangana government has announced the integration of the Road Transport Authority (RTA) database with the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) in Hyderabad.

The integration will allow traffic police to access real-time vehicle data during checks, including registration status, insurance, and pollution control certificates. Officials said the move is designed to make the issuance of traffic challans more accurate and transparent by verifying violations through authentic, live data. The decision was finalised at a high-level review meeting held at the TGICCC in Banjara Hills. The meeting was chaired by TGICCC Director VB Kamalasan Reddy and Transport Commissioner S Surendra Mohan. According to them, the initiative will empower law enforcement officers to streamline their operations by eliminating data mismatches and ensuring that only valid challans are issued. “Instant access to verified vehicle details will drastically improve efficiency and prevent arbitrary penalties,” a senior official said.

As part of the plan, the government is also fast-tracking the implementation of the Integrated Traffic Management System (i-TIMS), which incorporates advanced surveillance tools such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems, Variable Message Display (VMD) boards, and public address systems. The current inventory and performance of surveillance cameras were also assessed for technical upgrades. Senior transport department officials Chandrasekhar Goud and Sivalingayya highlighted that the initiative is aligned with Telangana’s broader Smart City goals. By integrating data platforms and enhancing video analytics, the State aims to reduce traffic violations and improve urban mobility.

The digital integration between TGICCC and RTA marks a significant step in data-driven governance and is expected to reduce manual intervention, bringing consistency and accountability to traffic regulation across Hyderabad and other urban centres.
