The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced the inauguration of a dedicated 24-hour Monsoon Control Room, effective from June 1, 2025.
This initiative aims to address rain-related emergencies promptly and ensure the safety and convenience of Mumbaikars. The control room will operate round-the-clock, staffed by MSRDC engineers and officials, to monitor and manage emergencies arising from heavy rainfall, such as waterlogging, accidents, and infrastructure issues. It will serve as a central hub for coordinating with various civic and state agencies, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, and other relevant authorities.
The MSRDC’s Engineering Department, responsible for the maintenance and repair of flyovers and other infrastructure within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, will oversee the control room’s operations. The facility will be equipped to handle a wide range of monsoon-related challenges, ensuring swift responses to public grievances and minimizing disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions. This initiative aligns with the broader efforts of the Maharashtra government and local civic bodies to bolster monsoon preparedness. In recent weeks, several pre-monsoon review meetings have been conducted to assess and enhance disaster management strategies. These meetings have focused on improving inter-agency coordination, deploying National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) units, ensuring the operational readiness of stormwater drainage systems, and addressing potential hazards such as tree fall and building collapses.
The establishment of the 24-hour Monsoon Control Room underscores MSRDC’s commitment to providing efficient and timely solutions to the challenges posed by the monsoon season. By facilitating real-time communication and coordination among various stakeholders, the control room aims to mitigate the impact of heavy rains on the city’s infrastructure and residents.
