New Flyover to Ease Traffic in Hyderabad’s IT Corridor

Hyderabad is set to witness the inauguration of its third-level flyover in June 2025, a significant development aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the city’s bustling IT corridor.

This multi-level structure, constructed at a cost of approximately ₹178 crore, is expected to enhance connectivity and streamline vehicular movement in one of the city’s most trafficked areas.

The flyover is strategically located at the Gachibowli-Kondapur junction, a critical point connecting the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to the Kondapur area. The unique design of this flyover involves constructing it above two existing flyovers, creating a three-tier structure. The base level comprises the Gachibowli junction flyover, followed by the Shilpa Layout Phase I flyover, with the newly constructed Phase II flyover positioned at the top. This innovative approach aims to maximize the use of available space and improve traffic flow without the need for extensive land acquisition.

Initiated nearly three years ago, the project faced delays under the previous administration. However, following the change in government, the current administration expedited the construction process. Over the past year, significant progress has been made, bringing the project close to completion. The flyover is now in the final stages of construction, with the Telangana government planning its inauguration in June 2025.

Once operational, the flyover is expected to significantly reduce travel time for commuters traveling between Gachibowli and Kondapur. By providing a direct route over the existing traffic bottlenecks, the flyover will alleviate congestion, particularly during peak hours. This improvement is anticipated to enhance the overall commuting experience for thousands of IT professionals and residents in the area.

In line with sustainable urban development practices, the construction of the flyover has incorporated measures to minimize environmental impact. The design includes provisions for efficient drainage systems to prevent waterlogging and measures to reduce noise pollution. Additionally, the elevated structure is expected to reduce the urban heat island effect by preserving ground-level green spaces.

The completion of this flyover marks a significant milestone in Hyderabad’s ongoing efforts to modernize its infrastructure. It is part of a broader initiative under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), which aims to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion across the city. Future projects under this plan include the construction of additional multi-level flyovers and the expansion of existing road networks to accommodate the city’s growing population and vehicular traffic.

As Hyderabad continues to expand, the successful implementation of this flyover serves as a model for integrating innovative engineering solutions with sustainable urban planning to create a more efficient and livable city.
