Vande Bharat Sleeper trains to launch by FY 2025 to 2026

Indian Railways is set to introduce 10 new Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, aiming to upgrade long-distance overnight travel with world-class comfort and advanced technology.

The trains, expected to roll out in the financial year 2025–26, are currently under rapid development, according to senior railway officials. Each trainset will feature 16 coaches with the capacity to seat and accommodate 823 passengers in sleeping berths. Designed for semi-high-speed travel, these new additions to the Vande Bharat series will be equipped with modern interiors and enhanced passenger amenities. The coaches will be constructed using austenitic stainless steel, ensuring structural strength and reduced maintenance. The manufacturing is being undertaken by three entities—BEML, Kinet Railway Solutions Ltd, and a joint venture between Titagarh Rail Systems Limited and BHEL. Together, they are expected to deliver a total of 210 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains over the coming years. Of the initial 10 trains planned, BEML is leading the production.

Although Indian Railways has not officially announced the routes, officials suggest that key corridors such as New Delhi–Howrah, Sealdah–New Delhi, New Delhi–Pune, New Delhi–Mumbai, and New Delhi–Secunderabad are under consideration for the sleeper service. The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise India’s rail infrastructure and improve the quality of overnight train journeys. With global-standard features, including improved sleeping arrangements and aesthetic design, the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are expected to redefine rail travel for long-distance passengers. While the Railway Board has yet to confirm the final launch dates, preparations are underway to operationalise these services within the current financial year.

As India pushes forward in transforming its transportation ecosystem, the sleeper variant of Vande Bharat signals a major shift in rail travel—combining speed, comfort, and innovation for millions of passengers across the country.
