PM inaugurates Satna and Datia airports in MP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today virtually inaugurated Satna Airport and the upgraded Datia Airport in Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant expansion of India’s regional air connectivity network under the UDAN scheme.

The move is expected to transform accessibility and economic potential across the Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand regions. The simultaneous physical ceremonies were held at both airport locations, attended by key state and central leaders. At Satna, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol addressed the gathering, while at Datia, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu participated in the formal proceedings. Both leaders underscored the Centre’s continued commitment to enhancing last-mile connectivity through air travel, particularly in underserved and remote areas. The new facilities, developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), are expected to reduce travel time, improve logistics, and create employment opportunities locally. Governor of Madhya Pradesh Mangubhai C. Patel, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, and Deputy Chief Ministers Rajendra Shukla and Jagdish Devda were also present, alongside MoCA Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha and AAI Chairman Vipin Kumar.

The newly built Satna Airport aims to provide improved air access to central India, while the upgraded Datia Airport will better connect northern Madhya Pradesh to the rest of the country. Both projects reflect the growing momentum of the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme, launched to democratise air travel by bringing affordable flights to tier-2 and tier-3 cities. The inauguration marks a strategic milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive growth through better infrastructure. As commercial operations commence, the airports are expected to act as catalysts for tourism, trade, and socio-economic development in the region.

The Civil Aviation Ministry reiterated its goal to ensure that no region is left behind in the national aviation map, aligning with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat and improved ease of living for all citizens.
