Jammu Railway Division Fines Over 4000 Passengers in May

In May 2025, the Jammu Railway Division intensified its efforts to combat ticketless travel, resulting in over 4,000 passengers being fined a total of ₹21.93 lakh.

This initiative underscores the division’s commitment to ensuring fare compliance and enhancing the travel experience for legitimate passengers. The Pathankot headquarters emerged as the most active zone, apprehending 2,094 passengers and collecting ₹9.77 lakh in fines. The Jammu headquarters followed closely, with 975 passengers fined, contributing ₹6.37 lakh to the revenue. Additionally, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station recorded 346 fines amounting to ₹3.69 lakh.

In the Kashmir Valley, 752 passengers were penalised, generating ₹2.1 lakh in fines. Authorities have emphasised the importance of travelling with valid tickets, highlighting that ticketless travel is a punishable offence under the Railways Act. The Jammu Railway Division has urged passengers to utilise modern ticketing options, such as the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) mobile application, to facilitate seamless travel and avoid penalties. This crackdown aligns with broader efforts by Indian Railways to curb fare evasion and ensure equitable travel experiences for all passengers.

Similar initiatives have been observed across various divisions, reflecting a nationwide commitment to maintaining integrity in the railway system. As the Jammu Railway Division continues its vigilance, passengers are advised to adhere to ticketing norms to contribute to a more organised and efficient railway network.
