Ghodbunder Road Gets a Green Makeover with TMCs Mega Clean Drive

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has initiated a comprehensive cleanliness campaign along the entire stretch of Ghodbunder Road.

This ambitious two-day drive, which commenced on Tuesday, aims to address the growing concerns of waste accumulation, drainage issues, and environmental degradation in the area. The operation covers a vast expanse, including main roads, service lanes, medians, junctions, and adjoining areas, with a large contingent of civic officials and sanitation workers actively participating. To ensure efficient management, the road has been divided into four sections: Kapurbawdi to Patlipada, Patlipada to Hypercity, Hypercity to Naglabunder, and Naglabunder to Gaimukh. Each section is overseen by a designated coordinating officer, supported by assistant commissioners, health officers, executive engineers, junior engineers, sanitation inspectors, and workers.

The drive encompasses a range of activities aimed at restoring cleanliness and promoting sustainability. These include the removal of garbage and debris from roads and dividers, cleaning of drains and gutters, clearing of tree branches, and washing of pavements and medians. To facilitate the operation, 500 sanitation workers have been deployed, supported by 15 dumpers and two mechanical cleaning machines. Multiple departments, including TMC’s solid waste management, garden, public works, and ward offices, as well as MMRDA, MSRDC, and Metro authorities, have joined the campaign. This initiative is part of a broader commitment by the TMC to enhance urban cleanliness and sustainability. Earlier this year, the corporation announced plans to complete the cleaning of all drains and finish ongoing infrastructure projects in the city and along the Ghodbunder highway before the onset of the monsoon season. This proactive approach aims to prevent waterlogging and ensure smooth traffic flow during the rains.

However, the cleanliness drive comes in the wake of mounting public frustration over the accumulation of garbage in various parts of the city. Residents have expressed concerns over uncollected waste causing health risks and pest infestations, despite TMC’s emergency cleanup efforts. The situation has been exacerbated by irregular garbage collection services, leading to mounting frustration and health concerns. In response to these challenges, the TMC has pledged to complete the cleaning of all drains and finish ongoing infrastructure projects before the monsoon season. This effort aims to prevent waterlogging and ensure smooth traffic flow during the rains.

The Ghodbunder Road cleanliness drive serves as a testament to the TMC’s commitment to creating a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable urban environment. By addressing waste management issues, improving drainage systems, and promoting eco-friendly initiatives, the corporation aims to enhance the quality of life for residents and set a benchmark for other cities to follow. As the drive continues, residents are encouraged to participate actively and contribute to the success of the initiative. Through collective efforts, Thane can pave the way towards a cleaner and more sustainable future.
