Ghatkopar to Versova Metro Service Upgraded from June 16

Mumbai Metro Line 1, the city’s pioneering metro corridor, has resumed full-service operations from Ghatkopar to Versova, effective June 16, 2025. This move marks a significant enhancement in the metro’s service, aiming to alleviate congestion and improve commuter experience along the 11.4-kilometre stretch.

Initially, in March 2025, Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) implemented a temporary measure where trains terminated at Andheri instead of continuing to Versova. This decision was based on data indicating that approximately 85% of passengers disembarked before reaching Versova, leading to overcrowding and delays. However, following comprehensive operational assessments and feedback from commuters, MMOPL has reinstated the full-service route.

The restored service is complemented by increased train frequency during peak hours, aiming to reduce wait times and alleviate platform congestion. Trains now operate at intervals of approximately 4 to 6 minutes during rush hours, enhancing the overall efficiency of the metro system. Mumbai Metro Line 1, inaugurated on June 8, 2014, has been instrumental in transforming urban mobility in Mumbai. Connecting key stations such as Versova, Andheri, and Ghatkopar, the line serves as a vital link between the western and eastern suburbs. With 12 stations along its route, the metro has significantly reduced travel time across the city.

The decision to revert to the full-service operation underscores MMOPL’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of Mumbai’s commuters.  By enhancing service frequency and restoring the complete route, the metro aims to provide a more comfortable and reliable mode of transportation, aligning with the city’s broader goals of sustainable urban development and improved public transit infrastructure. As Mumbai continues to expand its metro network, initiatives like these play a crucial role in promoting efficient, eco-friendly, and equitable urban mobility solutions.
